Volkswagen Tiguan Service Schedule & Maintenance Guide (All Model Years)

Looking for the factory service requirements for your Volkswagen Tiguan? We’ve put together a quick, easy-to-follow breakdown of what’s required at each service interval. We include Volkswagen’s recommended maintenance schedules, as well as our recommendations.

It’s important to note that there are multiple Tiguan generations, and maintenance requirements can vary by year, engine, and drivetrain:

2018–2024 Volkswagen Tiguan

2009–2017 Volkswagen Tiguan

Make sure you’re referencing the correct section for your Tiguan. Oil specs, replacement parts, and service intervals are not the same across these different models.

The schedules shown below with green check marks follow Volkswagen’s official intervals. That said, many Tiguan owners who are meticulous about long-term reliability choose to change their oil every 5,000 miles instead of 10,000. This is optional and comes down to personal preference.

(Each generation has different engines, transmissions, and service requirements — always verify fitment before ordering.)

What should I make sure I do if I’m maintaining my Tiguan myself?

If you’ve decided to handle your own Tiguan maintenance, here are a few important best practices:

1) Keep detailed service records
Track mileage, dates, and save receipts for parts and fluids. If you ever have a warranty concern, Volkswagen may request proof of maintenance. Not having records can result in denied claims.

2) Use oil that meets the correct VW specification
This is critical. Volkswagen engines require oil that meets specific VW standards. Don’t choose oil based only on viscosity (for example, “5W-40”) — the VW spec matters most. Common specs include VW 502 00 and VW 508 00, but not every Tiguan uses the same one.

Always confirm the required oil spec for your exact model year and engine before servicing. VW has changed oil requirements over time, so newer Tiguans may use different viscosity and specifications than earlier models.

2025–Current Volkswagen Tiguan Service Schedule

This is the newest generation Tiguan and features updated powertrain options, electronics, and service procedures compared to earlier models. Be sure you’re referencing this section if you own a 2025 or newer Tiguan, as parts and service intervals may not be interchangeable with earlier models.

Please note: The information listed above reflects the parts and/or fluids that carry a recommended interval for replacement. It is always recommended to go over the vehicle thoroughly when servicing. VW also has recommended inspection intervals for items like coolant level/condition, axles, ball joints, hinges, lighting, and many others. As mileage increases, these checks become even more important to ensure safe, reliable operation.
